Who is eligible for the NDIS?

To be eligible for the NDIS you must be under 65 years of age when you first apply, be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa, live in Australia, and have a permanent and significant disability that substantially affects your ability to participate in daily activities.
Children under seven with developmental delay or disability may access support through the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention pathway without always requiring a full NDIS plan.
For a complete eligibility guide, visit our How to Access the NDIS page.

How do I apply for the NDIS?

To apply for the NDIS, contact the NDIA on 1800 800 110, visit myNDIS portal at ndis.gov.au, or ask a Local Area Coordinator to assist with your access request. You will need supporting evidence of your disability and its functional impact from relevant medical and allied health professionals.
Grace Care’s Support Coordination team can guide you through the access process. Visit our How to Access the NDIS page for a detailed step-by-step guide.

What evidence do I need to access the NDIS?

You will need a diagnosis from a relevant treating professional, reports describing how your disability affects your daily functioning, and evidence demonstrating that your disability is permanent or likely to be permanent. The stronger and more specific your evidence, the better your access request outcome.
For detailed guidance on gathering evidence, visit our How to Access the NDIS page.

Can I access the NDIS for a mental health condition?

Yes. Participants whose primary disability is psychosocial, meaning it arises from a significant mental health condition such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or major depression, can access the NDIS. The condition must substantially impact your functional capacity and be permanent or likely to be permanent.
Grace Care delivers dedicated NDIS Mental Health Support Services and Psychosocial Recovery Coaching for participants with psychosocial disability across Greater Sydney.

Can children access the NDIS?

Yes. Children under seven access the NDIS through the Early Childhood Approach. Children aged seven and over with an approved NDIS plan can access a full range of funded supports. Grace Care delivers Early Childhood Early Intervention for children under seven and Services for Children and Teenagers for older children and young people.

What is a Local Area Coordinator (LAC)?

A Local Area Coordinator is an NDIA partner who helps people access the NDIS, connect with community supports, and implement their NDIS plans. LACs are particularly helpful during the initial access and planning process. Grace Care works alongside LACs to support participants across Greater Sydney.

What does my NDIS plan include?

Your NDIS plan includes your personal goals, your funded support categories, and the dollar amounts allocated to each budget category. The three main budget categories are Core Supports, Capacity Building Supports, and Capital Supports. Each category funds different types of supports.
For a complete explanation of NDIS plan funding, visit our NDIS Funding Explained page.

What is the difference between Core Supports, Capacity Building, and Capital Supports?

Core Supports fund everyday disability-related supports including personal care, household tasks, community participation, and transport. Capacity Building funds supports that build your skills and independence over time including support coordination, life skills development, and psychosocial recovery coaching. Capital Supports fund assistive technology, home modifications, and specialist disability accommodation.
For a detailed breakdown of each category, visit our NDIS Funding Explained page.

How is my NDIS plan managed?

Your plan can be managed in three ways: NDIS-managed where the NDIA pays registered providers directly, plan-managed where a registered Plan Manager administers your funding, or self-managed where you manage your own funding directly. Many participants use a combination.
Grace Care can connect you with a trusted NDIS Plan Manager if plan management suits your situation. Visit our NDIS Funding Explained page for more detail on plan management options.

What is an NDIS plan review?

An NDIS plan review is a formal reassessment of your NDIS plan, typically conducted every twelve months. It is an opportunity to update your goals, adjust your funding, and ensure your plan continues to reflect your current needs and circumstances.
Grace Care’s Support Coordination team prepares thorough plan review documentation and attends review meetings with participants across Greater Sydney. Visit our NDIS Plan Review Guide for comprehensive preparation guidance.

Can I request an early plan review?

Yes. You can request an unscheduled plan review if your circumstances change significantly, your support needs increase substantially, your living arrangement changes, or your current plan funding is insufficient. Grace Care’s Support Coordinators can advise on when and how to request an early review and help you prepare your submission. Visit our NDIS Plan Review Guide for guidance.

What is reasonable and necessary support?

Reasonable and necessary is the standard the NDIA uses to determine whether a support should be funded. A support is reasonable and necessary if it is directly related to your disability, helps you pursue your goals, represents value for money, and is not the responsibility of another funding system such as health or education.
For a full explanation, visit our NDIS Funding Explained page.

What happens to unused NDIS funding?

In most cases, unused funding in a plan-managed or NDIS-managed plan does not roll over to your next plan. If you are underspending, Grace Care’s Support Coordination team can help you identify additional supports that would benefit you and ensure your funding is used effectively.

What NDIS services does Grace Care provide?

What is Support Coordination?

Support Coordination is an NDIS-funded service that helps participants implement their NDIS plans, connect with quality providers, coordinate their supports, and navigate the NDIS system. A skilled support coordinator can make the difference between a plan that sits unused and one that transforms your daily life.
Grace Care delivers expert Support Coordination and NDIS Support Coordination services across Greater Sydney.

What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living is an NDIS funding category for participants with significant daily support needs who live in their own home or shared accommodation. SIL funds the cost of support workers to assist with daily living tasks, not the accommodation itself.
Grace Care delivers Supported Independent Living services across Greater Sydney. Visit our SIL page for detailed information.

What is the difference between SIL, MTA, and ILO?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) funds daily support for participants with high support needs living in their home. Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) funds transitional housing for participants awaiting a confirmed long-term home solution. Individualised Living Options (ILO) funds creative, participant-designed living arrangements that draw on natural and formal supports. Grace Care delivers all three services across Greater Sydney.

What is Short Term Accommodation and Respite?

Short Term Accommodation (STA), also known as respite care, is NDIS-funded support that allows participants to stay in an alternative setting for a short period while receiving full daily support. It gives participants a positive break experience and gives family carers genuinely needed rest.
Grace Care delivers Short Term Accommodation and Respite and Respite Care across Greater Sydney. The NDIS typically funds up to 28 days of STA per plan year.

Can I use Grace Care for some supports and a different provider for others?

Grace Care will work collaboratively with your other providers to ensure your support is well-coordinated.

What happens at my first meeting with Grace Care?

Your first meeting is a relaxed, unhurried conversation about you. We discuss your NDIS plan, your support needs, your daily routine, your goals, your preferences, and your living situation. Nothing is imposed and no commitment is required at that stage. The meeting is designed to help us understand how we can best support you.

Workers delivering specialist supports such as complex care or overnight care complete additional role-specific training.

Will I have the same support worker each visit?

Grace Care prioritises consistent worker allocation for all participants because trust and familiarity are fundamental to effective support. We assign a primary support worker to each participant and work to maintain that consistency across all scheduled shifts wherever possible.

Can I request a support worker of a specific gender?

Yes. Gender preferences for support workers are accommodated wherever possible, particularly for personal care and in-home care. This is discussed during your initial assessment and documented in your support plan.

Are Grace Care support workers background checked?
